The MP who’s serving his second term, said that every learner will have an easier time to study because of an increase in the amount of school bursary.

While addressing mourner’s at the burial ceremony of the late Brian Mayoya Agoya in Shirere ward, Sam Kavai, who spoke on his behalf , said that already development plans have been set in place especially in the education sector where commissioning of the entire constituency bursary forms will be conducted on 2nd of May at Kakamega Muslim primary school.

Khamala is not only reinforcing the primary and secondary education , but also for the tertiary institutions and therefore requesting parents having children in colleges and universities to turn up at CDF offices as from tomorrow of 22nd of April so as to confirm the successful application process.

A family from Khwisero Constituency in Kakamega County is living in fear of their fifteen year old grade nine girl being kidnapped by a church reverend.

Speaking to Western News Express Journalist’s, Tabitha Ayeko who’s the girl said that the reverend who’s also their School’s chaplain has been prone to supporting her financially with an intention of there being romantic love amongst the two but after she realized the intention she turned down the Bishop’s wants and after that she has always been being threatened by the fifty five years old gentleman causing her life to be in fear.

Similarly, she explains that despite sharing the information to the responsible leaders of her school of Emulole Primary and Junior Secondary school including the school principal so far no action has been enacted and now her life remains in danger,  responsible offices including that one  of the women representative of Kakamega Hon. Elsie Muhanda and that of the first lady Dr. Janet Kassily Barasa amongst many others being called on board to address the matter with immediate effect.

The grade nine pupil consequently explains that the love affairs between her and the Chaplain of the school has been there for the last eight months, an act she said that it forced her to remain silent over the matter because she feared losing the Bishop’s financial support.

“My father and mother have always struggled to put food on the table. It’s the situation that forced me to have no otherwise but do what the Reverend demanded. I am requesting for any financial and academic support to anyone good heartedly”, explained Tabitha Ayeko.

It’s an act  that has created a lot of tension to the residents of Mundoberwa sub location especially those who have young children who travel for long distances towards the school because the reverend is being said to have a habit of approaching young school girls while on their way and forcing them to have love affairs.

The parents of the fifteen year’s old girl also claims to have no support from the respective leader’s of Khwisero in a manner that the police officers of Khwisero police station including the OCPD in lign with those of Khwisero Sub County hospital aren’t handling the Matter in an orderly way.

“Our request is to the Women Representative alongside Our first lady Dr. Janet Kassily Barasa to help us get justice”,they explained.

“I tried so much I could so as to meet  my Colleague so as for us to have a discussion but it wasn’t fruitful. Since the allegations he hasnt been coming to church as usual. Let the law take its Course”, explained Javan Khainga.

On the other hand,  getting the reply of the suspect reverend it has been unsuccessful since yesterday 17th April as he’s not picking our calls.

It’s an act that has been cautioned by a few leaders in the respective Sub County including his fellow Church members led by Bishop Javan Khainga who requested for an immediate action to be taken despite the suspect holding a church position of being a reverend.

CS For Environment Confirms The Government’s Relation With Private Entities.

The CS for Environment Deborah Mulongo has disclosed that Once Acre Fund(Tupande) a non-governmental organization is in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, 97 million trees being in preparation for planting across the Country.

The tree seedlings are distributed to over 1.4million farmers and 3,700 institutions .

Speaking during the Tupande tree growing initiative at Ikonyero primary school in Kakamega the CS said the move exemplifies effectively through collaboration with Small scale farmers to advance the government’s agenda

“This quantity is not just a number, it is a legacy taking shape.” She declared, adding that by the end of this year Tupande is on track to increase that figure to 150 million trees.

Tupande nursery propagates up to 20 indigenous exotic and fruit tree species, the 330 tree nurseries are spread across 34 Counties a network that reflects the breath of the effort.

Remarkably, 25 percent of the nurseries are owned and operated by women providing that this movement is also about empowerment equity and opportunity.

Bringing the conversation closer to home Kakamega County has a tree cover of 18.21 percent and a target of growing 20.86 million trees annually to achieve the 30 percent tree cover by 2032

She noted that the County has grown 21 million trees.

At the national level on April 8, 2025 over 783 million trees were planted in Kenya from all walks of life from farmers, students, public servants and private sector partner’s

She celebrated a remarkable moment of the private sector in thriving the mission with a special spot light on the extra ordinary effort of One Acre Fund through its Kenya Programme Tupande.

Michelle Kagari One Acre Fund Manager said in 2024 Tupande distributed more than 55 million seedlings to more than 700,000 clients across the Country through a variety of channels including schools, hospitals, churches and direct farmer outreach.

Kakamega County Government Ordered By Sports National Committe To Finalize Bukhungu Stadium

A House Committee has expressed its commitment to ensuring timely funding of stadiums that are under construction.

The National Assembly Committee of Sports and Culture through its chair Hon. Dan Wanyama who was the member of parliament for Webuye West while in his inspection tour at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega said that they will ensure timely disbursement of funds for the stadiums.

“I want to tell Kenyans especially residents of Kakamega County that the Construction of Bukhungu is ongoing and we have had serious communications with the Contractor who has confirmed to us that everything is set to go”, Spoke the Committee Chair.

Similarly, speaking to Kakamega Journalists in a media briefing, he explained that the issue of funds stagnation has been resolved and there by demanding the 50% un completed work to be achieved by 30th July.


“As a Committee we shall ensure that their timely disbursement of money is required to finish the Bukhungu Stadium”, he spoke.

Consequently, he called upon respective parties which are the County government of Kakamega and the ministry of sports through Sports Kenya to ensure that the Bukhungu Stadium that’s being integrated into an international standard is completed as soon as possible.

Kakamega Newly Elected Finance Minister Promises To Allocate Equitable Share Of Revenue.

The newly appointed County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance Benjamin Andama has pledged to issue an equal amount of finance in the respective sixty wards of Kakamega County.

While speaking this morning in Kakamega town after officially taking control of the finance ministry steering wheel, he lauded his boss H.E the governor Fernandes Barasa for appointing him for the second time in the cabinet earlier on serving as the CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Development.

Andama is known to be of  industrious nature while in the ministry of Agriculture and there by he requested the national treasury to expedite the disbursement of funds in the Counties as the only way of continuity in development.

On the other hand, as he plans to invite the governor in Khwisero Constituency he pointed out Misango hills water supply to undergo rehabilitation that will help residents from the respective three wards to get clean water .

“The governor is expected to officially launch Misango water supply making it easier for residents to access clean water. I therefore assure residents to use the opportunity of water supply through pipes connections,” he advised residents of Khwisero Sub County.

Western Traders Requested To Attend On going Free Trade Expo Exercise In Kakamega

A trade Expo has been opened officially in Kakamega town in order to give a platform for Micro and Small Enterprises ( MSME) traders.

The Trade Expo for Kakamega chapter which is expected to come to an end on 29th March was officially opened today 27th by the Chief Officer for Trade, Industrialization and Tourism department Ms.Faith Gitira who presided on behalf of the deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula Ngatia.

The Chief Officer called upon each and everyone to make use of the occasion that is being held at Kakamega Golf Hotel so that they exchange business ideas.

Consequently, she revealed that the Count government of Kakamega has been supporting the Micro and Small Enterprises trader’s since 2022.

Kakamega Private School Shines In Drama And Music Festivals.



Fesbeth Academy are the champions of drama festivals in the Western region beating other giants from Western Counties of Busia, Bungoma and Vihiga.

While speaking to the Opera News Hub Journalist Daniel Anyanga the head teacher explained that In French Solo Verse, the best student came from Fesbeth out of 18 students while in drama entitled the ” Last session” the school also emerged the champion during competitions that was held in Vihiga County.

The school is taking the two items to the nationals in Nakuru in April.

Similarly, Mr. Anyanga highlighted that not only are they excellent in academic matters but also in talent show-casing and in co- curricular activities such as drama and many other sporting activities such as football games and athletics.

He explained that the championship came due to teamwork with their producers, staff, learners and the school director Ruth Minishi who has been very supportive in terms of funding of the entire programme.

“As you know drama is very expensive especially staging a play.We want to thank the director for such support and similarly given our appreciation to our beloved parents who have always been sustaining us financially”, explained Mr. Anyanga.

Although Fesbeth struggled to move from the lowest levels of those dramas, but in each level they performed well and to the regionals with two items Solo verse and the play.

Solo verse became the First Runners up followed by other teams from other regions.

He congratulated the able children who have persevered training which has been done thoroughly by staff members and hope as they are going to Nakuru at the National levels they expect to even perform better as they look forward to better training and upgrading of the play.

The headmaster urged Kenya Private Schools Association to work with the government expressing that learners from private schools are also learners from the region because when they go in competitions they don’t represent learners from private schools but the entire region.

The school wants to find a way for root support from the government otherwise it becomes very expensive to run the programme alone without any support from the government.” said the Head teacher

Senior teacher administration and Head of co- curricular activities Geofrey Shivachi commended students for participating in drama with support from parents.

Shivachi said have used experts from outside who are not teachers of the school for assistance in arrangements of drama and Solo verse.

“We are hoping that will lead in Nationals, looking at the arrangements learners participating in drama festivals will not close the school for April holiday, will remain behind for further preparations.” Teacher Shivachi emphasized.

The Head of Department for drama and music teacher Stephen Imbali attributed their success to good production from the production team led by the script writer Paul Juma.

Imbali extended his clarion call to parents to allow their children to participate in games as the school management has given them space and time adding that learners by doing that has enabled them have good time to shape the items.

“Parents its not all about class work we are also looking into naturing the learners abilities and potential as the school has given us that opportunity, so kindly allow your learners to take part in co- curricular activities because it will sharpen their thinking and will also build them as a person in general.” Teacher Imbali noted

County Governments Requested To Incorporate Social Workers Due To Their Higher Demand.


The Board Member of the Common Wealth Organisation of Social Workers  representing Kenya in Geneva Mr. George Kombe has urged  County Governments in Kenya to employ social workers as they are trained  from various institutions.


While speaking a few hours ago during the World Social Workers day at Kakamega Approved grounds he said there are so many students who have trained in social work and qualify to be employed in  the County governments especially in the health and social service department that  respective customers are faced with many challenges.


“If you go to level 3, 4 and 5  hospitals   across the Counties there is no social worker who can address patients on social issues. At times our patients need guiding and counselling of which that should be done by a social worker”, He lamented.


Similarly, he urged the County government of Kakamega to embrace employment of the youth who have trained in social work.


“There’s a bill in parliament which has reached a second reading and I  am  calling upon the Members of Parliament to pass the bill immediately as it will help in our country economically moving forward”,


Kombe disclosed that  implementation of the new law in parliament   will pave the way for employment of youth as many have been travelling to far Countries such as Saudi Arabia to seek employment.


Speaking on behalf of Dr. Janet Kassily Barasa who’s the first lady of Kakamega County, Dr. Patricia Kariaga a representative of the Directorate of short courses and Rebometric research from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) encouraged  the community to present short courses so as to enable them  to partner with the university.


“For students who want to study social work we welcome you at MMUST, Social Workers in Kenya are doing extremely well, right now this is an opportunity to be able to contribute greatly in Nation building and also solve the problems that are taking place.” Dr. Kariaga stated.
